It was tentatively planned as a Tim Burton project before the writers' strike, but Variety is now announcing that Kevin Lima has been given the job of bringing children's book The Spook's Apprentice to the screen.

The Enchanted director visited London last week to work on the adaptation of the first of Joseph Delaney's books about a teenage boy who is schooled in wizardry by a strange old man, known as the Spook.

Lima is hot property now, following the success of Enchanted (which I really should have given four stars on its cinema release, not three) and we really like his sensibility. His vision will probably be very different to Burton's, but we can see him doing a very good job on this.
